OneNote Setup
OneNote is Microsoft's note-taking app, and a common place MSPs keep client runbooks, procedures, and internal documentation. Once connected, Junto imports your OneNote pages into its knowledge base, giving the AI agent access to that documentation when triaging tickets.
How Junto Connects
Junto connects to OneNote through a Microsoft sign-in flow — there are no client IDs, secrets, tenant IDs, or API keys to enter. You sign in once with the Microsoft account whose notebooks you want to import, and Junto handles the rest.
Because Microsoft retired app-only access to the OneNote API, Junto reads OneNote as the signed-in user. That means the connection can see whatever that account can see: its own notebooks, notebooks shared with it, and — for work or school accounts — notebooks in the Teams it belongs to and the SharePoint sites it follows. Choosing the right account to connect is the most important setup decision (see Prerequisites).
This is a separate, dedicated connection. Connecting or disconnecting OneNote never affects an existing Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Teams connection.
Prerequisites
- A Microsoft account with access to the OneNote documentation you want Junto to use. Two account types are supported:
- Work or school account (Microsoft 365 / Entra) -- the normal MSP path.
- Personal account (consumer Microsoft account) -- for notebooks stored on OneDrive.
- An account that can reach the documentation you care about. In most MSP tenants, OneNote documentation lives in Teams and SharePoint sites, so connecting an admin or service account that belongs to those Teams and follows those sites will surface the most content.
- For a work or school connection, an administrator may need to approve the permissions Junto requests during sign-in. This is standard for organization-wide Microsoft Graph access.
Connect OneNote
- In Junto, go to Settings > Integrations > OneNote.
- On the Connect OneNote card, choose how to sign in:
- Connect work or school account -- for Microsoft 365 / Entra accounts.
- Connect personal account -- for consumer Microsoft accounts.
- Connect one or the other, not both.
- Sign in through the Microsoft popup with the account whose notebooks you want to import, and accept the requested permissions.
- When the connection succeeds, click Enable OneNote ingestion.
Once connected, the settings page shows a connection strip with the connected Microsoft account, Tenant, and Last sync time, plus a Disconnect button. A Sync now control sits in the page header.
Add Notebooks
Choose which notebooks Junto imports.
- Click Add notebook.
- In the picker, browse the notebooks the connected account can access. Filter by location — OneNote (own + shared), Teams, or SharePoint (and, for SharePoint, by a specific site) — to narrow the list.
- Select one or more notebooks and add them.
If a site or group notebook doesn't appear in the picker, an advanced manual add option is available as a fallback. This is rarely needed.
Scope Each Notebook
For each notebook you add, decide how its content is scoped. This is the key configuration choice, and it controls which tickets the documentation is available on.
- Company per section (recommended) -- Each section of the notebook is treated as one client. You map each section to a Junto company, and those pages are only used on that company's tickets. This suits the common pattern of one notebook with a section per client.
- Global knowledge -- Every page becomes org-wide internal knowledge, available on tickets for any company. Use this for internal runbooks and general procedures that aren't client-specific.
Map Sections to Companies
For notebooks scoped as Company per section, sections appear as rows after the first sync discovers them. Map each one to a Junto company:
- Auto-map by name -- Junto proposes matches between section names and your Junto companies. Exact matches are confirmed in bulk; close matches are surfaced as suggestions.
- Manual mapping -- Pick a company for any section the auto-map didn't match.
Unmapped sections are skipped — none of their pages reach the knowledge base — so map every section you want the agent to use. New sections are discovered automatically on later syncs.
Sync
Junto imports OneNote pages into your knowledge base, where they're indexed for semantic search. There's no manual export or import step.
- Sync now -- Import all notebooks on demand from the page header.
- Sync notebook -- Sync a single notebook.
- Per-section status badges show progress: Synced, Syncing, Pending, or Error.
Each imported page keeps a link back to its source OneNote page so the agent can cite where an answer came from.
What the Agent Can Do
Once notebooks are synced, the agent can work with your OneNote documentation, always scoped to the ticket's company:
- Reference documentation -- Search the knowledge base to find relevant OneNote pages when triaging a ticket, and cite the source page.
- Browse OneNote live -- List notebooks, sections, and pages, and read a page directly.
- Create and append pages -- Draft new pages or add to existing ones with technician approval.
High-impact actions always require technician approval before the agent proceeds.
Removing Notebooks and Disconnecting
- Remove a notebook -- Stops syncing that notebook and drops its section mappings.
- Disconnect -- Removes the connection along with all notebooks and mappings. Pages already indexed in the knowledge base remain until the next full sync clears them.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in fails or permissions can't be granted -- Work or school connections may require an administrator to approve the requested permissions. Have a tenant admin complete the sign-in, or approve the request in Microsoft Entra.
- A notebook doesn't appear in the picker -- The connected account may not have access to it. Connect an account that belongs to the relevant Team or follows the relevant SharePoint site, or use the advanced manual add option.
- Pages from a section aren't showing up -- Confirm the section is mapped to a company (unmapped sections are skipped), then run Sync now and check the section's status badge for errors.
- Teams or SharePoint notebooks are missing -- The connection may not have been granted the permissions needed to discover them. Disconnect and reconnect, ensuring all requested permissions are approved.
