Granola Setup
Connect Granola to let Junto search and read your meeting notes, AI summaries, and transcripts while you work. Ask what was decided on a customer call, pull your action items from the week, or quote exactly what someone said, then carry that context into a ticket or a reply.
Granola is a personal connection (beta): you connect your own Granola account, and only you can use it. It works in your Explore chats in the Junto web app and in your connected MCP client. It is never used by runbooks, automations, or anyone else in your organization.
Personal Connections
Most Junto integrations are set up once by an administrator for the whole organization. Granola is different:
- It belongs to you. You connect it from the My connections page, opened from your user menu (your avatar in the top corner), not from Settings > Integrations. The page describes the model directly: "Accounts you connect here belong to you. Only you can use them, from your own Explore chats and MCP clients. Automations, runbooks and other members of your organization never can."
- Who can connect one. Any staff member, from Technician up through Owner, can connect a Granola account. Customer accounts cannot own personal connections.
- What admins see. Administrators get a Personal connections card under Settings > General that lists which members have a connection, the connection type, the date it was connected, and whether it is active. They never see which Granola account is behind it or any of its contents. This exists so an admin can offboard an account when someone leaves.
Prerequisites
- A Junto account with the Technician role or higher
- A Granola account with meeting notes in it, and the ability to sign in to that account from your browser
- Access to the Junto web app (the connection is created there, even if you mainly use it from an MCP client)
Transcript access and some search features depend on your Granola workspace settings and plan. If Granola does not allow something for your account, the agent tells you so rather than working around it.
Step 1: Connect Your Granola Account
- In Junto, open your user menu (your avatar) and choose My connections.
- Find the Granola card. It shows the status Not connected and the description "Let Junto search and read your own Granola meeting notes and transcripts in Explore and MCP. Read-only."
- Click Connect. A Granola sign-in window opens.
- Sign in to Granola with the account whose notes you want Junto to read, and approve the access request.
- Back in Junto, the button shows Connecting... and then Finishing... while the connection is recorded. This usually takes a few seconds. When it completes, a Granola connected message appears, the status changes to Connected, and the email address of the connected Granola account appears on the card.
If the window closes without completing, or you see Connection failed, click Connect again. Nothing is stored until Granola confirms the sign-in.
What the Agent Can Do
Every Granola capability reads from the connected account only. Nothing is written to Granola.
| Capability | What Junto can do | Risk level |
|---|---|---|
| Ask about your meetings | Answer an open question across your notes, such as "what did we decide about the Acme renewal?", with numbered citation links back to the source notes | Medium |
| List meetings | List meetings for this week, last week, the last 30 days, or a custom date range, optionally limited to one folder or to meetings you captured or attended; returns each meeting's title, date, and attendees | Medium |
| Read meeting notes | Read your private notes, the AI summary, attendees, and note links for up to 10 meetings at a time | Medium |
| Read a transcript | Read the verbatim transcript of one meeting, for exact quotes or details the notes left out | Medium |
| List folders | List your Granola folders with each folder's title, note count, and who can see it | Medium |
| Check the connected account | Report which Granola account is connected, its active workspace, its plan, and whether personal and workspace notes are searchable | Medium |
Granola tools are read-only and do not require approval. They are rated Medium because meeting notes and transcripts are private content: the agent is instructed to keep that content in your conversation and not to copy it into tickets, notes, or messages unless you ask for exactly that.
How the Agent Uses Granola
- Open questions go to Granola's own search, which reads your notes before answering. This is the slowest option, so when you name a date range or a specific meeting the agent lists meetings first and then reads the ones that matter.
- Transcripts are fetched sparingly. Notes and summaries can leave out details, so the agent reads a transcript only when you need exact wording, and only for the relevant meeting.
- Citations are kept. Answers to open questions carry Granola's citation links so you can check the original note.
- Long results are cut off, not padded. Very long lists, note sets, and transcripts are truncated. When that happens the agent says the result is incomplete and narrows the request (a shorter date range, a folder, fewer meetings) rather than claiming something was never discussed.
- Meeting content is treated as data. Anything said in a meeting is information for your answer, never an instruction the agent follows.
- Refusals are final. If Granola reports that transcript access is disabled for a workspace, or that your plan does not include a feature, the agent reports it and does not retry through another route.
Scope and Reporting
- Where it works: Your own Explore chats in the Junto web app and your connected MCP clients. Granola tools are not available in runbooks, automations, Workspaces, code mode, or Slack and Teams direct messages. If you ask from one of those surfaces, the agent explains that the connection only runs in your own Explore chat or MCP client.
- Whose notes: Only the Granola account you connected, and only what that account can see in Granola. If a colleague's notes are not shared with you in Granola, Junto cannot reach them either.
- Privacy: Administrators can see that you have a Granola connection, and the organization's audit records that a Granola tool ran, using content-free descriptions such as "Read your Granola meeting notes". The audit never includes meeting titles, queries, note content, or transcript text, and no one else in the organization can run Granola tools against your account.
- Past meetings only: Granola holds notes from meetings that already happened. Use your calendar for upcoming meetings, scheduling, or invites; Granola cannot answer those.
Example requests:
- "What did we decide about the Acme renewal in last week's call?"
- "List my meetings from this week and pull out every action item assigned to me."
- "Summarize my Acme kickoff meeting notes from Tuesday and draft a ticket for the firewall work we agreed on."
- "What exactly did Jane say about pricing in the Northwind review? Quote the transcript."
- "Which Granola account do I have connected, and can it see workspace notes?"
Managing the Connection
- Check status: Open My connections. The Granola card shows Connected along with the connected account's email, or Not connected.
- Reconnect: If the Granola sign-in expires or is revoked on Granola's side, the card shows "Your sign-in expired. Reconnect to keep using it." and the button changes to Reconnect. Click it and sign in again. The agent also tells you when a request fails because the connection needs to be reconnected.
- Switch accounts: Click Disconnect, then Connect and sign in with the other Granola account. One Granola account can be connected per Junto user.
- Disconnect: Click Disconnect on the Granola card. A Granola disconnected message confirms it. Junto revokes its access to your Granola account immediately; the agent can no longer read your notes until you connect again. The disconnect is recorded in the organization's audit log as an integration change.
- When you leave: Removing a member from the organization, or changing their role to one that cannot own personal connections, deactivates and revokes their personal connections. Deleting a user account or the organization revokes them as well. No one inherits the connection.
Troubleshooting
- "Your Granola account isn't connected": Open My connections and click Connect on the Granola card. If you connected moments ago, wait a few seconds and ask again; the connection can take a moment to finish recording.
- "Your Granola connection needs to be reconnected": The sign-in expired or was revoked. Click Reconnect on the Granola card and sign in again. Repeating the request does not help until you do.
- "Your Granola connection is briefly unavailable" or "Granola is unavailable right now": A temporary problem reaching Granola. Try once more after a moment. If it keeps failing, check Granola's own status and try again later; no reconnect is needed.
- The agent says the tool only runs in your own Explore chat or MCP client: You asked from a surface that cannot use personal connections, such as a Slack or Teams message, an automation, or a Workspace. Ask again from Explore in the Junto web app or from your MCP client.
- "Granola does not allow transcript access": Transcript access is controlled by a Granola workspace setting. Ask your Granola workspace administrator to enable it, or work from the notes and summary instead.
- "Your Granola plan does not include that": The feature is not available on the connected account's Granola plan. Check your plan in Granola.
- "Granola could not find that meeting": The meeting reference is stale or belongs to a different account. Ask the agent to list your meetings for the right date range and try again.
- Results look empty or incomplete: Ask the agent to check which Granola account is connected. A different account or workspace than you expected may be signed in, or the account may not have workspace notes in scope. If the agent reports a truncated result, narrow the request with a shorter date range, a folder, or fewer meetings.
- Connection failed during sign-in: Close any leftover Granola window and click Connect again. If your role changed recently, confirm you still have the Technician role or higher; roles below it cannot connect personal accounts.
- Granola is missing from Settings > Integrations: This is expected. Personal connections live on the My connections page in your user menu, not on the organization's Integrations page.
